Salem, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Behrendt threw four touchdown passes and the UW-Whitewater Warhawks got the better of Mount Union yet again on Friday, claiming their sixth Stagg Bowl title since 2007 with a 43-34 win. Behrendt completed 25-for-37 for 370 yards and threw touchdowns to four different receivers for the Warhawks (15-0), who have been kryptonite to Mount Union in recent years. The Raiders (14-1) have lost just six games since 2006. All six have come against Whitewater in national title games. Jordan Ratliffe carried 24 times for 116 yards for Whitewater, which got a pair of clutch field goals by Lake Bachar. Seventeen straight Mount Union points gave the Raiders a 31-30 lead late in the third quarter. But 15 seconds after Edward Ruhnkes 29-yard field goal, the Warhawks jumped back in front with Dennis Moores 75-yard touchdown catch. Bachar kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth, and Mount Union got a 36- yarder from Ruhnke, but Kevin Burke was intercepted by Zach Nellis with less than two minutes remaining to end the Raiders comeback effort. Burke threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns but was picked off four times. This was the ninth Stagg Bowl meeting between the two schools in the past 10 seasons. Whitewater improved to 6-3 in those games. Lance Leipold, who recently accepted the head coaching job at the University of Buffalo, leaves Whitewater having won 32 straight games. Mount Union hadnt trailed all season, but it found itself down 13-0 after a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes by Behrendt. The Warhawks drove 78 yards on consecutive drives around a Mount Union punt. Behrendt capped the games opening series with a 12-yard touchdown to Justin Howard and found Ricky Finco from seven yards out. Will Meyer had his extra point blocked following the first score. Burke quickly moved the Raiders down the field later in the first. A 31-yard completion to Roman Namdar led to his 26-yard scoring strike to Luc Meachem. The ball was knocked loose at the end of the play, but officials gave Meachem the score regardless. Brady Grayvold intercepted Burke and ran it back for another Warhawks TD at 5:51 of the second quarter. Mount Union wasted little time responding, as Burke found Taurice Scott from five yards out less than three minutes later. But Scott lost a fumble late in the half and Behrendt capitalized, tossing a 17-yard TD to Jake Kumerow on the very next play. Then, an interception led to Bachars 23-yard field goal that sent the Warhawks into halftime leading 30-14. Mount Union scored 17 straight with a pair of touchdowns and a field goal in the third to climb in front. Burke and Namdar hooked up for a 29-yard score, Logan Nemeth found the end zone from three yards out and Ruhnke made it 31-30 with a 29-yard kick. Fielder has been out with a herniated disk in his neck, and surgery was recommended after a follow-up exam and another scan Thursday with Dr.NEW YORK -- Josh Cribbs is getting a chance to continue his career and give the New York Jets a boost on special teams and at wide receiver. The three-time Pro Bowl selection was cut by Oakland in the preseason after having off-season surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The Jets had shown interest in Cribbs during the last several months, working him out twice before signing him Tuesday. Cribbs, 30, is tied with New Englands Leon Washington for the most kickoff-return touchdowns in NFL history with eight, and has returned three punts for scores. He spent his first eight NFL seasons with Cleveland. New York also signed wide receiver Greg Salas from Philadelphias practice squad, and placed wide receiver Clyde Gates and running back Mike Goodson on season-ending injured reserve. The Jets also signed former Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet to the practice squad. Cribbs could help offset the losses of both Gates and Goodson. He has 107 career receptions for 1,161 yards and seven touchdowns, and has experience running the wildcat formation -- one of Goodsons roles with the Jets -- with 753 yards rushing and two scores. The versatile Cribbs is also 4 of 12 passing in his career. The signing of Cribbs is a low-risk, high-reward move -- especially if he can regain the form that made him one of the leagues most dangerous players who could score from any spot on the field. Gates injured his left shoulder Sunday in the Jets loss to the Pittsburgh Steelerss, but had expressed optimism Monday that he would be able to play this Sunday against New England.dddddddddddd He hadnt yet received the result from an MRI exam, though, and it apparently revealed the injury to be more serious than first thought. Gates finished with 12 catches for 122 yards this season, and averaged 23.2 yards as the Jets primary kick returner. Goodson, a potential replacement for Gates on kickoffs, was also lost for the season Sunday when he tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee. He was hurt while trying to make a tackle on Lawrence Timmons game-sealing interception of Geno Smith in the fourth quarter. New Yorks offence was already without top receiver Santonio Holmes, who is nursing a hamstring injury, and tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., who was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the leagues policy on performance-enhancing drugs. With the losses of Gates and Goodson for the season, the Jets were seriously short-handed on offence. Salas was a fourth-round pick of St. Louis out of Hawaii in 2011, and had 27 catches for 264 yards as a rookie. He was traded to New England before last season, but was later claimed off waivers by Philadelphia. Salas had yet to play this season for the Eagles. Maysonet went undrafted after running for 1,964 yards and 21 touchdowns during his senior season. He was signed in April by Philadelphia, and also spent time with Cleveland, Indianapolis and San Diego this season. ' ' '
