NHL executive Bill Daly and Philadelphia Flyers president Paul Holmgren were announced on Tuesday as the 2014 recipients of the Lester Patrick Trophy. The award is handed out every year for outstanding service to the game of hockey in the United States, presented jointly by the NHL and USA Hockey. Daly, 50, became the leagues first-ever deputy-commissioner in 2005 and still holds the post today. He spearheaded negotiations on collective bargaining agreements with both the NHLPA and the NHL Officials Association. Holmgren, a native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, became the first ever former Flyer to coach the team in 1988. Since then, Holmgren, 58, has worked as both coach and general manager for the Flyers and the Hartford Whalers. Holmgren had a decade-long NHL career as a player with both teams. Former winner of the Lester Patrick Trophy include Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Hull and Steve Yzerman.
